Let's talk about the role.

I answer my own phone and I answer it the same day. Tell me what you are building and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.

The questions that come up first.

Does a Canadian licence transfer?

No. US licensing is state by state and I will license in Florida, which is where I am going. What does not need re-earning is the trust accounting, the compliance discipline, the supervision, the negotiation, and eighteen years of running a marketing operation. I also spent ten years of my career working in the United States already, so the market is not new to me.

Why leave your own business?

Partly timing. The franchise came up for renewal in 2026, and with a move to Florida coming I chose not to sign another five years. Mostly, though, there is a limit to what one person can carry. I was the compliance department, the marketing department and the person answering the phone all at the same time from 2008, and I am good at all of it, but I would rather do less of it properly and have colleagues around me while I do.

Are you open to remote work?

For the move itself, yes. I can work remotely while I relocate to Florida, but the long-term plan is a role in an office, because most of what I am good at — negotiating, supervising, holding people to a standard — only really works in a room.

Do you need visa sponsorship?

No. I am a U.S. citizen, so there is no visa or sponsorship to arrange. I am based in Toronto for now and moving to Florida.
