Brokerage operations and compliance
For nine years I looked after the trust account, the compliance, the transaction processing, and the systems that hold all three together.
All capabilitiesBroker of Record is a licence class rather than a seniority title. Ontario requires every brokerage to have one, and that person is personally responsible for the trust account, for compliance, and for the conduct of everyone operating under the brokerage. From February 2017 to 2026 that was me.
I did it alongside a fabulous team of support from RE/MAX Realtron. They took care of the trust accounts, the compliance and the conduct day to day, and I was the one personally responsible for all three. Both halves of that are true and I would rather say so than let you picture me doing the reconciliations at midnight.
I learned this side first, on purpose. A year as Branch Administrator at RE/MAX Realtron before I ever took a client — compliance, trust accounting, transaction processing. Most people in this industry never see that room.
Specifically.
- 01
Trust accounting and regulatory exposure
Oversight of client funds held in trust, and the reconciliation and record-keeping that has to survive an audit, run with the RE/MAX Realtron support team and signed for by me. This is the part of a brokerage where mistakes are not recoverable.
- 02
Transaction processing end to end
Agreement to close: documentation, conditions, deadlines, the hand-offs to legal and lender, and the follow-through after the sale that most operations drop.
- 03
Standards and supervision
Setting what acceptable looks like and enforcing it. When you are the Broker of Record there is nobody above you to escalate to, so the standard has to be written down and held. Knowing which parts to hand to a support team and which parts stay on your own desk is most of the skill.
- 04
Vendor and partner management
Selecting, vetting and coordinating the external bench a transaction depends on — mortgage, legal, staging, insurance — so the client manages one relationship instead of five.
- 05
Business ownership
Budget, licensing, insurance, suppliers, office and the incorporated entity behind it. Nine years of running the whole thing, not a department of it.

Happy to go deeper.
Any of this stands up to questions. That is rather the point of writing it down.
